Our GentleLASE alexandrite laser is Candela's premier laser for removing hair quickly, comfortably and effectively. The GentleLASE operates fast and features dynamic cooling to maximize our patients' comfort. This state of the art equipment is the "gold standard" for lighter skin tones.

The GentleYAG is the fastest and most powerful YAG laser on the market today. It effectively treats dark skin tones, offering unmatched treatment capabilities in permanent hair removal. The GentleYAG features Candela's patented cryogen cooling system.

Both lasers work on hairs that have dark pigment and are very successful in reducing shaving bumps, ingrown hairs and pigmentation. These lasers give better results than an IPL hair removal system. We offer a free consultation to make sure you are a candidate for this procedure.

Things to remember about laser hair removal:

1. Laser is effective on dark hair only. Blond, gray, red and peach fuzz hair will not be removed by the laser. For such cases, please consider waxing or electrolysis.
2. Actively tanning during laser hair removal treatments significantly increases adverse side effects, such as pigmentation, etc. We do not treat tan skin (including fake tan).
3. Unless directed otherwise, always shave the day of your appointment.
4. Periodic maintenance is required in order to maintain results. On average twice a year.
5. Results are individual. Some clients and some areas respond better than others. On average a 70-80% reduction in hair can be expected after 5 treatments.

Q. How does laser treatment work?

The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat. Candela's patented cooling technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, the long-pulse laser and cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.

Q. What can I expect during treatment?

You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. Your practitioner will guide the laser to the treatment areas with a small hand piece. Each laser pulse may be preceded by a short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment could take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area and condition being treated.

Q. Does it hurt?

Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves in several seconds and is minimized by Candela's cooling technology. For some patients, a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment. Be sure to discuss this with our staff.

Q. How many treatment sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, multiple treatments are required, as the process is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Many factors impact the effectiveness of individual laser treatments, including the size of the area being treated and the amount of hair. In our experience, with most patients it takes five treatments to reduce unwanted body hair by about 80%.

Q. How do I prepare for treatment?

Patients scheduled for hair removal should avoid plucking, electrolysis or hair waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. Also, any hair should be completely removed by shaving, and your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or skin tanning products before laser treatment. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 14 days prior to treatment

Q. What can I expect after treatment?

A cool compress or gel pack may be applied for comfort following your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours.

Q. What precautions should I take after treatment?

After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, don't scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Our staff may advise additional precautions.

Q. Are there side effects?

Your risks are minimal. Side effects may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering, and purpura (a laser bruise), in the treated area - these usually do not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects are rare. Be sure to discuss potential side effects with our staff.

Q. Are these treatments covered by insurance?

Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. Consult your insurance carrier for conclusive information.
